Power in the Pause!

We often talk about the value of taking a moment to pause, whether in our Boutique or during private sessions. It's crucial for our bodies to rest and recalibrate. Today, while chatting with my hairstylist, Cinnamon at Your Worth it Salon in Schoharie, NY (thanks for keeping these angles sharp!), we touched on a sign encouraging people to reschedule appointments if they’re feeling unwell. A reminder we all seem to need to hear.
That conversation has me reflecting a lot —both on myself and my community—and I've noticed that we tend to see cancellations as failures. This mindset comes from a scarcity mentality, where we tie our self-worth to our productivity. But those two aspects of our lives don’t even overlap. Often, people feel guilt or shame for taking time to pause, whether it’s to rest or spend a day curled up on the couch. Our society bombards us with the message that if we’re not constantly busy, we’re not valuable. That’s simply not the case.
There's real power in taking a break. When we're sick, our bodies might appear inactive, but internally, they’re hard at work creating white blood cells and boosting our immunity. This healing process isn’t just physical; it also applies to our mental health.
I was reminded of this when I spoke with a dear friend recently. A few years ago, her family experienced an unimaginable tragedy with the loss of her sister and niece. When reflecting on that time, she shared her regret about not taking her bereavement leave. The thought of sitting alone with her grief was overwhelming, so she pushed herself to return to work. Looking back, she realizes that by neglecting to pause, she made it even harder to process the immense pain that her family went through.
Though we often use extreme situations to illustrate the importance of taking breaks, the truth is that this need for pause applies to all aspects of our well-being. When we slow down and give ourselves the space to rest, we allow our minds and bodies to heal. This in turn enhances our consciousness, gratitude, and overall energy. It helps restore balance both internally and externally.
When we take a moment to restore balance in our lives, we set off a wave of healing and well-being that spreads not just within us, but throughout our community. This gives us the chance to be more present and friendly, like smiling at strangers or holding the door for someone. These little acts of kindness are products of slowing down. It creates positive engaging with others, and builds a sense of community, safety and value. Those quiet moments can really transform our world.
That moment of pause allows for us to align with all that is good for us. Even if its just for a few moments as we take some deep breaths. In those moments we are in alignment. It's amazing what that divine power that lies within the pause.
